Your private morocco family tour begins with your driver picking you up from the airport Mohamed V. if you arrive early, we will then explore the main cultural sights before we drive to your hotel where we’ll stay overnight.
Today after your breakfast, we will start our journey towards the capital city of morocco Rabat, we will have a visit to Hassan Tower, the city’s most famous sight. The massive minaret of Hassan dates to 1195 and towers over Rabat. The mosque itself was never entirely completed and was largely destroyed in an earthquake in 1755. The Mohammed V Mausoleum is one of the greatest monuments of modern Morocco, which was inaugurated in 1967. The deceased king lies entombed in white onyx, surrounded by royal guards.
The visit will include Kasbah des Oudayas, a picturesque place to take a stroll, see some sights and admire the interesting scenery. The Kasbah was the Almohad citadel of medieval Rabat and is guarded by an impressive arched gate built around 1195. Inside the Kasbah is a palace and Andalusian gardens, as well as a broad terrace, where you can enjoy the views.
Later, we continue driving towards the bleu jewel of the north Chefchaouen. Enjoy your evening at leisure.
Today, you will have a free day to enjoy the medina of the bleu town, wandering in its bleu painted streets, visiting the kasbah and enjoy magnificent views of the medina.
After breakfast in the Riad your authentic journey will start towards Volubilis crossing Wazan and other Rif villages. In Volubilis you will discover the Roman ruins and learn about the archaeological site of Moroccan history. After the visit of the ruins you will shift our way to Meknes the seventeenth century heritage site where you will stop for lunch and hang around the medina and Bab el Mansour. Then, we will drive you to Fes, where you will spend the night.
We will start the day exploring the oldest city in Morocco, snaking through its alleys and narrow streets. We’ll begin sightseeing at the Royal Palace gate, followed by the Jewish headquarter where the first Mellah ever was built in Morocco, during the 16th century. We’ll ensure that you visit all sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Al Qaraouine University, the oldest in the region.
We’ll also visit the Tanneries, the Attarine museum, and the Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, you’ll visit many different cooperatives and then, experience a wonderful panoramic view over the whole Medina of Fes before ending the night at your Riad.
After breakfast at your hotel in Fes, we’ll leave for Merzouga through the Mid-Atlas region passing through Ifrane, the “Switzerland” of Morocco. Up next we’ll drive a bit further to explore the cedar forests of Azrou, where you can stop to feed the Berber apes. We’ll then continue to Midelt where we’ll have lunch and then follow the Ziz River through to the Ziz Gorge (valley). Our drive proceeds across the Ziz Valley, Erfoud, and Rissani where we’ll stop to explore the souk (local market). Our day ends as we arrive in Merzouga, spending the night at a local hotel.
After breakfast, we’ll head out to the desert; trade-in our 4×4, We’ll spend the day exploring the desert region and The Erg Chebbi Dunes, making a circuit of the desert dunes where you’ll experience firsthand the captivating contrast of the Moroccan nomadic (Berber) way of life. From there we’ll pay a visit to the “black village” of Khamlia, where we’ll enjoy a show by the renowned Gnawan musicians, followed by a traditional Berber pizza for lunch in the ancient capital of Rissani. Our afternoon will be spent riding camels and enjoying the sunset behind the dunes before heading back to our camp. There, we’ll be treated to a traditional tagine dinner, drink delicious local mint tea, and delight in traditional Berber music underneath the star and moonlit sky of the wondrous Sahara Desert.
We’ll fetch an early start to catch the sunrise in the Merzouga desert, and then return on camelback to the village. From there, we’ll leave to Tinghir, to reach the Todra Gorge, which is the highest, narrowest gorge in Morocco. Here we may stop to hike within the valley, and after lunch, in the gorge, we will continue to the Dades Gorge, where we’ll enjoy sandcastles and also geological features called “monkey toes/feet”. We’ll spend the night in the Dades Gorge, at a local Hotel / Riad.
After breakfast, we’ll drive towards Ouarzazate passing through the route of a thousand Kasbahs (fortresses). We’ll stop at Kalaat Mgouna (which is the center of The Valley of Roses) for a stretch and lunch at a local restaurant. Then, we’ll continue our private tour stopping first at the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou before continuing through the Tizi-n-Tichka pass to Marrakesh where we’ll spend the night at a local riad/hotel.
Today we’ll have a guided tour of Marrakesh. You will explore the main attractions and monuments of the city including the famous Jamma el Fna square, Koutoubia mosque, the souks, palaces, and museums. We’ll also explore parts of the city belonging to Fes Jdid “New Fes”, such as Gueliz, The Menara Gardens, and Majorelle.
Today depends on your flight schedule. Given the time, you may spend the afternoon discovering the less touristic areas of Marrakesh and enjoying lunch at a local restaurant before being transferred to your hotel/airport where your 11 days 10 nights morocco family tour ends .
